How to Know When Your Appliances Need to Be Replaced

As a society, we have grown to heavily rely on the appliances that we install inside of our homes. Whether it be an air conditioner, clothes dryer, dishwasher, garbage disposal, refrigerator, or any other type of appliance, these machines and devices have become, as a whole, a vital part of our everyday lives. Investing in these appliances, however, can take a large chunk of money out of your wallet. Because the cost is typically so high, it’s important that you take care of your home appliances and get them repaired or replaced whenever the time may come.

The Average Lifetime of Common Home Appliances

Before you can understand when the right time for appliance service and repair in Uxbridge is, you should know the typical lifespan of each common home appliance. If your appliances are reaching the end of their lifespans, it’s probably time to get them replaced. Appliances more than halfway through their lives may start to need more frequent repairs, depending on how you care for them. Air conditioners, refrigerators, dryers, and stoves all last approximately 13 to 15 years; furnaces last 15 to 20 years; water heaters last 10 to 20 years; dishwashers, microwaves, and washers last around 9 or 10 years; and garbage disposals last roughly 12 years.

When it comes down to it, however, your appliances will only last as long as the amount of effort you put into maintaining them. Just the same as cars, your home appliances need to be serviced frequently and maintained so that they can continue to function properly and last for the entirety of their approximated lifespans. If you don’t take care of your appliances and ignore your responsibilities to keep them maintained, they will likely not even last as long as the given approximations.

Signs That Your Appliances Need to Be Replaced

With all that said, it doesn’t necessarily matter how well you maintain your appliances; at some point, you’ll need to get them replaced eventually. When that time does come, though, you’ll want to handle the situation immediately so that you aren’t wasting time without access to that appliance while it’s not working and waiting patiently to be replaced. There are many signs, however, that can let you know when it’s time to get any of your appliances replaced.

If your dryer is smoking while in use, it would typically cost more to repair it than it would cost to replace it; this is also the same when your refrigerator’s compressor isn’t running. If your oven is rusted on the side, the expensive fix is not worth it and you might as well purchase a new oven. If your washer isn’t spinning any more, the whole thing would need to be taken apart for the repair, which can be very expensive to pay for; instead, just buy a new one. Often, the time to get your appliances replaced is when the repair costs more than the replacement.
