Erectile dysfunction (ED) can be an embarrassing problem and strike right at that moment when you’re really hoping it won’t. There are lots of myths and misconceptions about ED that cause confusion and can stop you getting the help you need.

Thankfully there’s lots of help out there and medication like tadalafil can help you lead a normal life and make you forget you ever had a problem.

Misconceptions about Erectile Dysfunction

1. Erectile dysfunction only affects a few men

There is a thought that ED only happens to the odd man after a few pints too many but actually erectile dysfunction affects up to half of all men aged 40 to 70 so it’s much more common than you think.

2. Erectile dysfunction is a natural part of ageing

Actually it’s not. Although most men as they age need a bit more stimulation to become aroused, you can still have an active sex life well into later life. ED is often a medical condition that can be treated and you don’t have to suffer in silence.

3. Erectile dysfunction doesn’t affect younger people

Although you’re more likely to suffer with erectile dysfunction if you’re older, actually 15% of men between 20 and 39 say they sometimes have a problem.

Two per cent of men between 40 and 59 say they never can get an erection. So it’s not just something that affects older men and if this has happened to you, you can rest assured you’re not alone.

4. Erectile dysfunction means there’s something wrong with your sex life

Definitely false. ED is a medical condition. It can be made worse by excessive drinking, stress, medical conditions such as diabetes, and smoking. It’s often nothing to do with your actual sex life. Although it can be hard to reassure your partner, a trip to your doctor should help solve the problem.

5. Erectile dysfunction is just a psychological problem

It’s often thought that if you have an issue with ED, then it’s always something psychological. It can be difficult to explain to your partner, or even understand yourself and you can start to question what’s wrong with you. ED is essentially a problem with the blood flow to the penis so it’s often a medical issue.

If you’re having problems with erectile dysfunction, don’t worry. There’s treatment out there that can help and means that you can have a normal, healthy sex life. Medication like tadalafil can help resolve the issue quicky.
